A useful starting brief describes how you want to use the space and which existing features you want to keep. Tell us where you sit, how you reach the back of the garden and whether grass, planting or paving is the priority. We work with patios, turfing, artificial grass, drainage, decking and retaining walls, so the discussion can connect the layout with the work needed to build it. A clear brief also helps keep separate purchases and optional changes visible in the quotation.
The initial discussion should clarify dimensions, levels, drainage, boundaries and preferred style. Layout options can then be considered alongside buildability and your spending priorities. A design should distinguish new surfaces, lawn, beds, steps and retained features, with enough information to discuss each part of the work. Do not assume architectural, engineering or planning drawings are included.

Discuss paths, seating, lawn and planting together, including levels and where surface water will go. Resolve access rather than adding isolated features.
Identify the agreed deliverables and any surveys or specialist decisions needed before construction can be accurately scoped.
Provide your postcode, photos, rough measurements and examples of the atmosphere you like. Tell us what must remain, any access restrictions and whether work will happen in stages. Surveys, specialist input, material samples and construction should be identified separately in the proposal. Approval of a concept does not authorise additional works.
Planning applications, structural calculations and detailed electrical design require separately confirmed arrangements. Material supply and installation are not included simply because a feature appears in a proposed layout.
Larger or higher-risk jobs are assessed individually. We check which approvals are needed before work starts.
