Look at the approach and the landing together
The useful brief shows where the route starts and finishes, not just the space occupied by a step. Include surrounding paving, beds and any changes planned for the garden. We work with landscaping and paving materials including porcelain and sandstone, with the choice agreed for the actual project. Preparation, materials and labour need to be clear in the quotation so the steps and the adjoining work are not treated as unrelated decisions.
The proposed work should define support, foundations, dimensions and how the steps meet existing paving or ground. Surface grip, water movement and visible edges require attention. Where handrails, balustrades or other protection are needed, their design and supply should be confirmed separately. No assertion of regulatory compliance is made before the actual site and design have been reviewed.

Discuss drainage, lighting proposals and any required protective features without assuming they are automatically included.

Provide your postcode, photographs from above and below, the approximate height difference and route width. Tell us about loose existing steps, restricted mobility needs and access for materials. The estimate distinguishes demolition, supporting work, surface finish and adjoining reinstatement. Final measurements must be checked on site; a photograph alone cannot establish a safe finished step geometry.
What is separate
Electrical installation, structural retaining calculations and specialist access design require separate confirmation. Steps are not a substitute for an accessible route where a different arrangement is needed.

Send photos and dimensions. The condition of their support and the adjoining surfaces determines whether replacement can follow the existing layout.
Can steps match my patio?+
Discuss the existing material and availability. Matching appearance does not remove the need for suitable step dimensions and edge detailing.
Are handrails included?+
Only if expressly agreed. Any protection required should be assessed and included in a separate defined design and supply scope.
Can you add step lighting?+
Lighting can be part of the brief, but electrical design and installation arrangements need separate confirmation with an appropriate competent installer.
Can the garden stay accessible during work?+
Explain essential routes before booking. Temporary access and curing periods must be planned; continued use cannot be assumed.
