✦ SCOPE THAT FITS THE JOB

Preparation matters as much as the surface

A paving project connects the surface you see with the preparation underneath it. Tell us whether the area will be used for seating, walking or vehicles, and show the existing thresholds and levels. A patio, a driveway and a narrow garden path have different requirements. Material choice is part of the brief, but access, groundwork and drainage need discussion before the finished area is priced.

Provide approximate dimensions and photos showing the house, edges and adjacent ground. Identify puddling, loose slabs, settlement or damaged joints. Excavation, removal of unsuitable material, sub-base preparation and bedding are defined for the actual project. Steps, edging and retaining features need their own specification. We do not assume that the visible surface reveals the condition of the existing foundation. Photograph the edges and junctions as well as the centre of the surface. Thresholds, drains, steps and adjacent planting can affect the work more than the chosen slab colour, particularly where levels or access are restricted.

✦ OUR PAVING WORK

Choose the work you need.

01

Patio installation

Plan the seating area, thresholds, falls and finish. Discuss porcelain or natural stone, preparation and joints, plus any steps or edge details that need an agreed allowance.

02

Driveway & block paving

Define the vehicle-use area, material, edges and ground preparation. Block paving is a substantial section of driveway paving, with access and drainage included in the project assessment.

03

Paths, steps & stone finishes

Connect routes through the garden with usable widths and agreed levels. Natural-stone paving includes relevant decorative stone scope; individual features and material quantities are specified.

04

Slab replacement & repointing

Identify loose or damaged slabs and failing joints. We distinguish a local repair from wider reinstatement so replacing the surface is not confused with resolving an underlying base problem.

Specific tasks covered by this service

Use the linked task pages to compare the scope before requesting a quotation. Any unlinked task remains subject to assessment and confirmation.

✦ PREPARATION & THE FINISH

Agree the work before it starts.

Porcelain, natural stone and block paving require a clear finish and installation scope. Decorative stone landscaping is discussed with natural-stone work so the retained brief is not lost. For repair enquiries, show which slabs move and whether the problem appears isolated or affects a larger area. Repointing renews agreed joints; it does not automatically correct a failing base. Drainage and levels should be addressed as part of the relevant installation or repair.

Everyone who works on your property is covered by public liability insurance, and we check this before they start.

✦ YOUR QUOTATION

Details that make the price clearer.

Send measurements, the existing surface, preferred material and access for deliveries and waste. The quotation identifies excavation, foundations, edging, laying, joints and reinstatement where included. Groundworks is a section of the project, not an unexplained extra service. Material supply and disposal can be separated from labour when agreed.

✦ BEFORE YOU BOOK

Paving questions.

Practical answers about scope, access and arranging the work.

Can you repair a small area of paving?+

Send close-up and wider photos of the damaged area. We review slab movement, joints and adjacent levels before agreeing whether a local repair is appropriate.

Is block paving a separate service?+

It is covered within driveway paving. The page discusses its specific surface, preparation, edges and drainage rather than creating an overlapping standalone page.

Does repointing fix loose slabs?+

Joint replacement and slab stabilisation are different tasks. Show any movement so the quote can include suitable repairs rather than only renewing the visible joints.

Can you include drainage and steps?+

Yes, discuss them as defined parts of the project. Their layout, levels, material and allowances need agreement; they are not assumed in every paving price.

What affects the quotation most?+

Area, existing foundation condition, excavation, access, material selection, drainage and waste all matter. Photos support an estimate; larger or uncertain work may need an assessment.
