Explain the space you want back

An overgrown garden can make ordinary things difficult. You may struggle to reach a shed, see the boundary or use an area beside the house. Start your enquiry with that practical problem. It helps us understand the purpose of the clearance.

Keep the important plants visible in the plan

Tell us what should stay before the work is assessed. A shrub may be hidden within a larger tangle. A climber might be wanted on one section of fence but not another. Photographs with simple notes can explain those choices.

Also identify items within the vegetation. Timber, broken garden objects and other materials need a separate assessment from ordinary cuttings. Show anything visible and tell us about objects you know are concealed.

Compost heaps and bonfire remains can be considered with photographs first and non-hazardous contents. Keep the proposed scope specific so the material can be understood before handling is discussed.

Make access part of the enquiry

The route to the work area affects the way a clearance can be organised. Include gate openings, side passages and changes of level. If the only route is through the house, show the relevant sections and mention anything that needs particular protection.

A garden’s size does not explain all the work. Dense, tangled growth can involve different preparation from long grass over an open area. Uneven ground, wet patches and a weak boundary can also affect the approach.

If the garden includes an area under decking, describe what needs clearing there. Rodent nesting areas are considered for clearing only; we do not provide pest control.

Where we cover Borehamwood

We take garden-clearance enquiries in the Borehamwood WD6 locality, including the area around Brook Road, Aberford Park and Meadow Park. Send your complete postcode together with the photographs.

Hertsmere Council provides guidance on protected trees. Where an overgrown garden includes an established tree, check with your local council before treating it as part of a general clearance. A Tree Preservation Order or conservation-area protection may affect what can be done.

The Borehamwood hub connects the local services. Our main garden-clearance page explains the wider task.

Borehamwood clearance questions

What if I cannot get beyond the first part of the garden?

Photograph the accessible area and explain what lies beyond it. Show the growth blocking the route. There is no need to push through an unsafe area to provide more pictures.

Can I keep a climber on part of a boundary?

Tell us which section you want retained and show the boundary from a wider angle. The condition of the support and the surrounding growth should be considered before cutback.

How do I explain a clearance around a shed?

Show each accessible side, the door and the route leading to it. Point out stored items, fragile panels and any known uneven ground so the proposed work can be understood.
